Genovesa Island, Galapagos

3 October 2003.

The next day took us to Genovesa Island.... for many types of boobies!!!

This is the Red Footed Booby. They have really colourful blue and pink beaks with brown feathers. They just looked a bit odd and not colour co-ordinated.

The best bit was helping another red-footed booby build her nest by passing her sticks while her rather incompetent husband bungled about thrashing around in the trees.

These masked boobies squawked all the time to mark their territory. If you stood above them and flapped your arms about they would get confused and make lots of noise. It made good videos...

This baby frigate bird was looking for its mother on its nest. The Frigate birds don't have waterproof feathers so can't dive into the sea like other birds. This baby will have to wait for its mother to return with some stolen food, or a baby sea turtle. It can sometimes be a whole day so they tend to look a bit lonely.

Jason's high-light of the trip was swimming with sea lions.  The cheeky chaps would love Jason's acrobatic manoeuvres in the water, and would swim with him for ages. A favourite game was chicken where the seal and Jason would swim head to head until the seal turned away.

This one was abit fiesty, making Jason a tad nervous.

Nice Mohawk

These seagulls were fascinating to our guide who constantly shouted Copulation! Copulation! Copulation! everytime they got it together. He would then count the amount of times it happened.  You would think that after 10 years of being a guide he wouldn't find it quite so interesting.

Copulation! Copulation! Copulation! One.....

Copulation! Copulation! Copulation! Two......
