Floreana Island, Galapagos

1 October 2003.

We travelled again through the night to Floreana Island, we encountered our first night of huge waves, and a noisy motor.....

We slept like workers in a Bolivian Coca factory.

It took us ages to get this photo, the flamingos are not as friendly as we would like. They spend the whole time with their head under the water eating shrimps.  The more shrimps they eat, the pinker their feathers get.  This is a young bird so its not very pink.

Mad, super speedy red crabs line every island. They start off black, and change to a green, brown, until they get old enough to look like this one.

We had amazing food, and we were lucky to have a great group on the first five days. Two French ( Claire & Franscois, One Canadian ( Ryan), One Swede (Goonah), and One Dutch ( Yvonne).  We drank many vodkas and played lots of cards.  It was interesting to watch people get fiesty when loosing.

... Apologies for the name spelling.

The pelicans were amazing.  They flew so low and would then bomb it down into the water to catch fish. We saw one unfortunate bird who had broken its neck by misjudging the depth of the water.  It was slowly dying of a broken neck

Here Jason tries to get fishing tips from the master ready for the next England vs NZ fishing contest.

Claire and a very noisy cheeky chap, hence the distance.

The Galapagos is truly fantastic, we didn't stop smiling the whole time. We couldn't believe how much we had seen in the first three days.
